Remote Backup FAQ
Q - What is Remote Backup?
A - RBS.IHSystem.com is a service offering secure
and robust automatic or manual remote backup of mission-critical
client data using the Internet.
Q - What are the system requirements?
A - Windows®
- Windows® 98,Windows NT® 4.0 with SP6, Windows
Me, Windows 2000, 2003 or Windows XP
- Pentium® II, 200 MHz or greater
- 64 MB RAM
- 128 MB RAM recommended(required for Windows XP)
- 200 MB hard disk space
- 800 x 600 screen resolution
- CD-ROM drive
- Mouse
- Dial-up, DSL/cable, T1 or any always on Internet
connection.
Q - What can I backup and where can I restore?
A - Once our software is loaded onto a Windows based
machine on your network, the software can be configured
to backup data from any accessible networked drive
on your LAN, and even data from any non-Windows drives,
including UNIX, Mac OS, Linux and Novell. Multiple
computers at different locations, not necessarily
on the same LAN, can backup to a single user account.
As the data on our Backup Server is stored, referenced
to each computer's volumes, each computer's data will
be independently stored, yet still accessible by another
computer configured to access the same account. For
instance, this feature can be used to backup files
at the office to be retrieved later at home.
Q - Is the backup software automated?
A - Our client side software is completely automated,
taking the guesswork and the possibility for human
error out of the backup process. By selecting a scheduled
backup, or by selecting the backup to run at logoff
or shut down, a backup will run automatically for
the files you have selected. During a scheduled backup
a connection to the Internet will be made, your files
will be encrypted and compressed, and then transmitted
automatically by our client software to our backup
servers, all without the need for user prompting.
Q - How is my data secured at your facility?
A - Your data will be stored securely in our data
facility with redundant Internet and power connections,
on a redundant clustered array of Dell Servers using
RAID5 hot swappable drives configured in a Dell PowerVault.
Each day we perform a full backup of all data stored
on our servers to a second secure location.
Q - What is an incremental backup and how is it
performed?
A - Compression on subsequent incremental backups
is accomplished using the cutting edge, FastBIT binary
incremental technology that can accurately extract
the changes that you've made to a file since your
last backup. This efficiency is achieved by using
the powerful FastBIT difference engine to identify
and extract the binary-level differences between two
versions of any file. The technology works on ANY
type of file operating on ANY platform. By reading
only the changed binary code, universal cross platform
compatibility is achieved.
Q - Is there a charge to restore my data?
A - There is no charge to restore your stored data
via the Internet, and CD archived copies of your data
are available for just $35. Each CD copy of your data
comes with a condensed restore version of our software
for easy restoration of the data whenever you need,
even if you have discontinued using our service.
Q - How safe is the service?
A - Backup sets are encrypted for complete security.
With RBS.IHSystem.com your data is protected by
multiple layers of physical, logical and network security.
RBS.IHSystem.com encrypts the backups for complete
security so nobody can read them without your key.
Our 448bit Blowfish encryption algorithm, established
by the U.S. Government for high-security military
documents, has never been cracked since it was founded.

Q - Are these full backups?
A - Yes and No. Initial backups are full backups,
and subsequent backups are incremental, using FastBIT.Our
service utilizes FastBIT
technology that allows you to optimize the speed
and size of your backup sets.
Q - How are upgrades handled?
A - Upgrades are included in the cost of the service
and are released to users as they become available.
Upgrades are automatically applied to users' accounts
and do not require user intervention.
Q - How do I know how much data I am backing up?
A - The amount of data you have selected for backup
is displayed in the bottom right corner of the client
screen. The amount of data is displayed in Kilobytes.
1000 Kilobytes = 1 Megabyte. After the third day of
backups, the bottom left hand side of the client screen
will display how much server storage space has been
used.
